General Information

Through our Abacus class sessions, students can improve in the following ways:

• Enhanced concentration ability and memory power
• Improved learning, reading and writing skills
• Increased powers of observation
• Improved analytical ability
• Gain an interest in mathematics
• Gain self-confidence

Abacus classes are currently held at the following times:

• Wednesdays from 4 to 6 PM
• Saturdays from 1:30 to 3 PM and 3 to 4:30 PM

Achievements

On July 5, 2009 the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) hosted the Abacus-Mathematics and Mental Arithmetic Competition in cooperation with the International Abacus and Mathematics Association (IAMA), Canada Office.
Four participants from Yip's finished with the following results:

• Calvin Quong placed 1st in the Level 5 category
• Emily Cheung placed 2nd in the Level 6 category
• Leighton Shum placed 4th in the Level 7 category
• Geoffrey Ng placed 2nd in the Level 8 category
