    Philosophy/Aims of the School
"For the Love of Pursuing Academic, Language and Performing Arts Excellence"
Our education goals are to develop independence, inner discipline and to foster a sense of competence through a prepared environment. The Yip's Music & Montessori approach to educate is a perfect partnership, which allows the development of the whole personality of a child.

    Montessori Casa
Through Practical Life domain, daily living materials are designed to develop independence. The materials are introduced to the child by demonstrating the precise sequence and methods of practical exercises.

The Sensorial materials are to provide stimulation for each sense and to sharpen perceptual skills. Equipment is used to emphasize visual, olfactory sense and auditory discrimination.

For Conceptual Development (Academic), language, reading, writing and mathematical skills evolve from repetitive manipulation and understanding of more basic skills. Equipment such as sandpaper letters are designed for the child to see and feel, number rods of varying lengths and golden beads are used to develop mathematical skills in a tactile fashion. Geography, History and Science activities will be introduced to the child in a later period based on their interests.

All of the subjects contribute towards the child becoming a knowledgeable and well-rounded person. The program of Casa is designed to fully prepare students into our Elementary Level.

    Elementary (Grade 1 - 8)
We strive to provide Montessori methodology to our Challenging Academic and Language Programs. A structured approach is used to the core curriculum such as Language Arts (spelling, grammar, literature, writing), French, Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin), Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Social & Cultural Studies, Physical Education & Health. This curriculum follows and exceeds the enrichment level provided by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

The school provides a unique education environment based on traditional values, morals and personal development aiming to promote appreciation of oneself and others, tolerance, self discipline, esteem, confidence and integrity. Instruction in conflict resolution, communication, life skills and ethics will be reinforced.

Our small class format providing individual attention encourages critical thinking and problem solving skills. These also provide a quiet, controlled, stimulating environment where each student develops at his/her own pace.

    Performing Arts
Our aim of Performing Arts Education is to instill a love of Music, Art and Dance and to develop a child's intellectual faculties i.e. imagination, memory, social skills, self-expression and self confidence. Students learn in an atmosphere that encourages freedom of expression, and nurtures individuality within a framework which emphasizes necessary values of discipline and responsibility.

Through Music, the child can relieve internal tension and becomes emotionally balanced. Learning the words, melody and actions of a song also help develop the child's memory. Through Musical Drama, the child learns to express feelings, act out roles and create imagination. Friendship is formed when the child has enjoyed taking part in an activity. As a result of Music Instrument Playing, discipline, flexibility, physical strength, fine motor skills and co-ordination are developed. As a result of Musicianship, the child is able to read, write, hear and think music, which are viewed as the foundation for effective and lasting musical education.

All students participate in a wide variety of curricular and co-curricular choral and instrumental ensembles. Pianists with advanced skills are afforded the opportunity of learning choral and instrumental accompaniment techniques. The school will organize optional private lessons in a wide variety of musical disciplines i.e. piano, strings, woodwind, brass and percussion.

The Visual Arts program presents students with a progressive and sequential set of art experiences that enables them to acquire and develop skills and techniques. The students will work in various areas of visual arts, including color and design, drawing, painting, printmaking, fabric arts and computer graphics. They are encouraged to experiment with a large variety of materials, to take risks and to evaluate critically their own and others' work. Enrichment is provided through outdoor sketching trips, visits to galleries and museums.

All children study Creative and National Dance. Students wishing to further their dance – ballet, jazz and modern training can enroll in the after-school program at Yip's. Through the various forms of dance, students develop flexibility, strength, coordination, agility and rhythm. Students gain an understanding and appreciation of the concentration and discipline that dancing requires.

After School Care / Enrichment and School Breaks Programs
Students staying after school are supervised by teachers. Activities such as games, chess, reading, watching educational shows and concerts will be arranged according to different levels. Enrichment after school courses such as academic or French tutorial classes, abacus, instrumental practice, swimming, musical theatre, dance may be arranged if enrolment numbers permit. Care for PA Days and School Breaks (March Break and Summer Break) will be provided with set cost.

Music is always a reflection of culture and in many cases has defined culture. Music Appreciation is provided to people of all ages and backgrounds aiming at giving them some familiarity with and appreciation for music as distinct from a rigorous technical understanding of it.

This is, therefore, especially important in the process of musical learning for students playing all kinds of instruments as they should be exposed to different types of music thus enabling them to understand the artistic, social and cultural background of music in various eras. In addition to educating, the new teaching approach is designed to broadened students' views of Music and the World in all aspects.

Yip's Music Centre would like to take this opportunity to share with everyone the beauty of Music and Arts. This is the perfect time to relax and enjoy an afternoon full of fun, entertainment and expressing any concerns parents might have for their children through the path of musical education.

Programs include: Student Performance, Parents Workshop, Students Art Piece Appreciation, Meeting our Faculty, Q & A, Complimentary, Refreshments.

Events Review - 2003 Christmas Concert

"2003 Yip's Christmas Concert" was successfully held at Markham Theatre on Saturday night December 20, 2003. The hallmark of the concert was the well-known musical “The Nutcrackers”. All members from our choirs, Montessori Schools and musical theatre played the role of the Nutcracker with beautiful costumes, sets and props. Chinese School & Choir and Violin Ensemble also took part in the performance. We sincerely thank for the audiences and parents sharing with us an evening full of excitement. So many thanks for our students, teachers and back stage crews who participated with enthusiasm and also thanks for the sponsors for sponsoring this wonderful night. Let us now share some memorable moments of the concert.
