Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s)
Field Trip
This is just a reminder that on May 31st the elementary and pre-grade students will be traveling to the Royal Ontario Museum. There they will have an opportunity to discover if birds are really dinosaurs? Did flight evolve from 'the ground up' or 'the trees down'? Students will get up close and personal with fascinating fossils recently unearthed in China's Liaoning Province. This remarkable discovery reveals new information about the origins of birds and their evolutionary link to dinosaurs. Dating back 125 million years, these fossils bear remnants of skin, scales and feathers and have changed our understanding of the origin of feathers and flight in prehistoric animals.
Building a Garden
Work is progressing in the building of a garden for our students on our school property. We have planted some of our flowers and vegetables. Students are taking turns tending and participating in the care of the garden. This will provide lots of educational possibilities for the students in many academic areas. We invite any donations of planting or gardening material. We also invite any volunteers who would like to help us take care of our garden. Please contact the office for details. We hope to enjoy our garden as it grows for years to come.
Character Building
May's character building theme has been 'Team Work.' We have been having lessons and activities throughout the month to reinforce our theme. Please take the time to review with your child what 'team work' means and how to best work as an active participant with friends and family. Some activities you can do at home are to draw a picture of what team work means or to write a short story or poem about team work.

Teacher Corner
"The children are all active learners in their music lessons and are progressing very well. I am astounded everyday and very proud of everyone. The big recorder group of elementary children started their recorder music lessons seven months ago and they have all improved a tremendous amount during this period. The small elementary recorder group only started their recorder lessons a few months ago and their improvement has been amazing. All the students in Casa, Pregrade 1 and Elementary are singing beautifully. We are all looking forward to the June 30th concert and we hope you are too." - Ms. Susan
Student Corner
"I love Yip's because it is big and I can go to our playground to get some exercise and to have fun. I like Yip's because I learn many different things here. I really like to study math, science, geography and English. Mrs. Naj and Ms. Candy are my favorite teachers because they teach me many different things everyday. All my friends are at Yip's and we all learn to sing and dance and play musical instruments together" - Andrei Zaporojan - Pregrade 1
Parent Corner
"Yip's Montessori and Elementary School is a class above the rest. We are parents of two children that attended different school systems - the public and Yip's elementary. This has given us an opportunity to truly appreciate the breadth, diversity and quality of education that the Yip's program contains. Furthermore we could not be happier about the family atmosphere that Yip's fosters between our son and his classmates" - Elementary Parent
Sincerely,
Christian Bayly
