Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s)

Field Trip
On February the 25th, 2005 the elementary students with two teachers will be going to enjoy an educational concert presented by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto. We will travel by school vans and will be leaving the school at 12:00 and returning around 2:45 in the afternoon. This is a great music learning experience for the students where they will listen and learn about instruments, musical styles and composition.

Character Building
February is 'Respect Each Other' month here at Yip's Elementary School. All grades have been learning about what 'Respect' means and how to express it. Students have been creating work that demonstrates an understanding of the need for respect throughout our lives. When you come to the school please take a look at the bulletin boards in the main building. March's theme will be 'Responsibility'. We will let you know about some exciting activities and lessons you can do with your child to reinforce the lessons they are learning at the school.

Yip's Music Festival
This is just a reminder that the Yip's Music Festival deadline will be on March 5th. The festival is an open music competition for all students. We strongly encourage all students of the gifted program to participate in this event.

Musikala
Musikala is being held on February the 27th at the Markham Chinese Presbyterian Church. This will be a wonderful musical presentation of the four music eras - Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary. Our music faculty and winners of 2004 Yip's Music Festival will be playing popular repertoires. All students are recommended to attend. Adult tickets are $15 and Yip's students are $12. Please order soon as seating is limited.

Leisure Talk
February 28th, at 6 pm on Fairchild TV, there will be an interview shown presenting various Montessori Education principles. If you get the chance please watch this program. It will help to keep you abreast of education principles in practice here at Yip's Montessori.

March Open House
On March 3rd, 4th and 5th Yip's will be having an Open House presentation. The hours will be between 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please come out to visit your child's school and see some of their academic work and art pieces. This will also be an excellent opportunity to converse with your child's teachers. Performances including choral, piano & violin playing and free performing arts lessons will be held at Markham main campus on Saturday March 5th at 2:30pm. Friends and families are welcome.

Parent Meeting
There will be a parent meeting on March 9th from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the Unionville campus in the main building in Casa room 3. The purpose of the meeting is to address any concerns you may have about our school. This meeting will help to explain some of the things to look forward to for the rest of the year. This meeting will also allow us to explain some of our strategies and our exciting plans for the coming year.
Some of the key topics for the evening will be to discuss the upcoming Report Card, our new IEPs, and our Benchmark Reading assessment programs. With our Benchmark assessment our plan is to send out level specific books for our reading program. We would also like to discuss our plan for our new scholarship program for the coming year. Please come out that night to help stay informed about changes going on at your child's school.

Teacher Corner
We are introducing a new section in our monthly newsletter. We are inviting teachers to contribute some of their own thoughts as they reflect on their experiences here at Yip's.
From Mrs. Sonali our French and Drama Teacher: "I love teaching at Yip's! The students are the brightest I've ever taught. They've been soaking up their French lessons and I do look forward to coming in each day. At Yip's we have a comprehensive 5-day-a-week French program for intensive language studies. I use an animated learning method with songs and movement to enforce our French lessons. The pre-grade 1's and elementary students also have drama lessons three times a week and we all have a delightful and stimulating time. We've been learning about mime, good, correct speech and poetry recitation. We are working hard in preparation for a future performance in front of a live audience. Parents of elementary students will be notified shortly regarding costumes and props! Keep up the hard work everyone!"

Sincerely,

Christian Bayly
