Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s)
Late Slip Notice
I would like to remind everyone that tardiness is wasteful and teaches a lack of care and respect for others. We would like to clarify that all Casa and Pre-grade 1 students who arrive after 9:15 am and elementary students who arrive after 9:00 am will be required to get a late slip in the office. This information will be recorded on your child's report card.
Proper Attire
We would like to remind everyone of the need to dress warmly for the winter season. Student's who are not adequately dressed for the weather will not be able to participate in outdoor activities. This can be a factor in poor academic success. All Elementary students are permitted, during these cold winter days, to wear a vest which is grey, green or blue. This will allow students to feel comfortable during this time of year.
Character Counts
February is 'Respect Each Other' month. 'Respect Each Other' is one of our Character Counts themes. Each month we discuss and create work on different themes that go into building high moral character and good citizenship. Morality cannot simply exist here at the school. These lessons must be carried forward at home to reinforce our instruction. We invite you to work with us to build on what is going on in the classroom in your home.
Parents can read stories about individuals who demonstrate proper moral character. Parents can assist their children in volunteering in the community or visiting things like museums and art galleries and talk about how valuable they are to our community.
Behavior Management
We would like to remind students and parents that Yip's has a zero tolerance when it comes to certain poor behaviors. Students who use bad language or do not observe our rule: 'Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself' will be sent to the office. Once in the office, depending on the situation, students will most likely have a time out so the student can reflect on their misdeeds. For serious offences parents will be contacted.
Please spend some time with your child in reviewing proper behaviors and school rules at home. Please explain to your child what examples of proper school behavior when in school. Please also use positive reinforcement like timeouts and rewarding good behavior when disciplining your children.
Library Donations
I would like to invite all parents who have spare children's books, which your children have outgrown or do not use, to please donate these books to the Yip's school library. A book is a wonderful teaching tool and to share a book with a child is a wonderful thing. Currently our library is undergoing some renovation. Many books have gone missing so we have temporarily removed the books until more secure shelving can be installed.
Field Trip
Pregrade one and Elementary students will be going to Milliken Mills Community Library on Monday January the 24th from 1:00 to 2:00 o'clock. We will have an orientation, a story time as well as library cards will be distributed. This week we will be sending out permission slips and application forms for library cards. Please return these forms filled out promptly to the school. We will not be borrowing books this visit but we do plan to take students to the library again in the future for academic purposes.
We encourage all parents to make use of the Markham Community resources like the public library system. We must all work together to foster a love for reading with our children and weekly trips to the public library are an essential part. For your assistance here is the Milliken Mills Community Library schedule:
